My Short Film - 2003

Been there done that

I have, walked the circle of humanity and seen the machine
I have, felt the pain and suffering
I have, heard the lies
I have, seen the light in their eyes
I have, been there done that.

Who is David Beaudry?

The Photographer-Videographer-Video Editor

He first started dabbling with a camera in the middle on the 1970's, about 1975 or so. His grandparents had given him a small 1.26 auto everything ... point and shoot type thing. It was clunky, but it did the job.

It was not until the late 1980's that his passion for creating images really started. By then, he had a huge hunger to burn film. As a boy, he would photograph his action figures amongst the tomato plants. You get the idea of what an eight year old with a camera thinks about.

While attending Dawson College. he studied photography, along with film and animation. It opened his mind as to how he could use the viewfinder as a world of its own. It was during his animation classes that the passion for creating little stories containing no more than four images was born. He often strove to create little stories using the storyboard method of thinking.

His travels have enabled him to choose from a wide variety of subjects. Apart from travels, each of us can choose so many subjects from our own surroundings. Each and every day, they have so much to offer us. He selected his shots from every scene to which he was exposed.

He tries to get as close as possible to his subject. He wants to see, to feel, to touch and to be there again when he looks at the photograph. He certainly doesn't take himself too seriously. He's not one of the famous photographers who shoots for NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC. It must be said, however, that they are always in his mind when he creates a photograph. It's sort of an unspoken standard in which he believes.

He always tries to improve his photography each time he shoots. Over the years, he hopes that he has met this objective. At least, he believes that this is so. There are no real pinnacles. He believes that all pictures, by definition, are pleasing to the eyes of the beholder. Some images rise above and stand out to become icons. That's only because the person who shot the scene was there, at the right time and at the right place, and was able to ensure that his photgraph was seen worldwide.

He is amused through the creation of visually challenging imagery (architecture, shadow chasing are but examples). He is amused by walking around with a loaded camera, with the time to burn the roll on all sorts of available subjects.

It has proven to be quite therapeutic for him over the years. He enjoys the chase, the hunt for images. Yet, he's still left with the conviction that the nicest pictures he has ever taken are the ones he has missed.

It's the simplicity of it all that attracts him, the freedom provided by that little square. All of the photography herein was produced with fun in mind. All of this content is based on spur-of-the-moment image making frenzy. He's caught up in the frenzy every day, just while walking down a street. Whatever catches his eye, he tries to have fun with it by containing it within the space of his viewfinder.

Often, it's the simplest of objects that tickle his fancy. The goal is to capture only what has caught his eye. He looks at it up close, making it stand out above all else, as if its creation is the most important ever. Everything seems photographable. One just has to hunt for the proper angle. Therein lies the game. He's not too concerned about using the right lens, or the best film for the right shot. He enjoys pushing limits to wherever he thinks they might end or begin.
